Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is used for relaxation, to help manage a health condition, or enhance wellness. In therapeutic massage we work with the muscular system of the body. It involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body. Massage has been practiced in most cultures, both Eastern and Western, throughout human history, and was one of the earliest tools that people used to try to relieve pain.
Why should I consider a massage?
We believe the body always tries to get back into balance. With our busy lives, sometimes we fall out of balance. If any part of your body feels "off" a massage might be a great way to bring it back.
There are different types of massages, some specialize in joints and pain, sometimes we use cups and/or hot stones, and sometimes it's mostly for relaxation. They are all good, just make sure to mention any medical conditions to your therapist.
What conditions does it help?
Anyone who wants to reduce stress, reduce pain, increase range of motion can benefit from a massage.
When should I not get a massage?
If you have just had surgery, a broken bone, or a cardiovascular condition it might be best to wait. Please always consult your physician before receiving a treatment.
What can I expect?
You can expect to be have a brief conversation with the massage therapist where you will be asked about medical conditions and general health. The massage therapist will leave the room while you get undressed and get under the sheet. You are covered at all times. The therapist will only uncover the bodypart that is being worked on. Usually the therapist will use massage oil or massage cream to work on your muscles while you get to take a deep breath and simply relax. If anything is uncomfortable, let the therapist know.
